From The Outside

From the Outside is part of the series that takes on the theme artist and patient. This art piece was designed using basic shapes and bright colors. Children's Hospital is the subject of this design, the design is showing the entrance of Children's Hospital. Instead of focusing on how the building is built, the focus is on the color and shapes. The shapes describe the entrance of Children's Hospital looks and the colors were chosen specificly to express the feeling of safeness and being at an okay place even though hospitals are often looked as a sad place. With this piece I wanted to give the message that even the place where we mourn the most can have some happiness. The design style was inspired by op art, one image was printed out several times and then flipped to mirror itself. This style creates an illusion of a kaleidoscope effect, this effect allows my theme to be viewed in 2D but can also be imagined as 3D piece. Since the shapes are flat and the building is 3 dimensional, I wanted the design to be able to feel 3 dimensional as well. The colors that I have chosen to use were used to express an emotion of being in a sad place for example the color black. At the same time, when I use the color red I want there to be a feeling of being content.
